Five Account Settings Worth Changing on Day One

Published 26 July 2026 · By Mark Preston, Affiliate Review Lead

Registration flows are designed to be finished, not configured. Everything below is available in most account settings menus, takes about four minutes in total, and is considerably harder to do later, when there is a reason to.

1. Turn on two-factor authentication

An account with a balance and a saved payment method is a financial account, and it is worth exactly as much to somebody else as it is to you. If the operator offers app-based two-factor rather than SMS, take the app.

Why now: the moment you would most want this switched on is the moment you discover you cannot log in.

2. Set a deposit limit before you need one

Almost every operator offers daily, weekly and monthly deposit ceilings. Decreases usually take effect immediately; increases usually carry a cooling-off delay. That asymmetry is deliberate and it is what makes the tool useful.

Why now: a limit set in a calm moment is a decision. A limit set in a bad one is a negotiation you are having with yourself, and the delay on increases is the only thing on your side. GambleDragon's overview of the limit and time-out tools operators are expected to provide lists what should be available and where to find it.

3. Enable session reminders

A reality check that interrupts play at a fixed interval with elapsed time and net position. Set it to something short enough to be inconvenient, which is the entire point of it.

Why now: time perception during play is unreliable in a well-documented direction, and this is the cheapest correction available.

4. Turn off reverse withdrawals

If the operator lets a pending withdrawal be cancelled back into your playable balance, switch that off if it can be switched off. If it cannot, note the pending window and treat it as a countdown rather than an option.

Why now: it removes a decision that is only ever presented to you at the worst possible moment.

5. Opt out of marketing you did not ask for

Separate the transactional messages you need from the promotional ones you do not. Reactivation offers are targeted specifically at people who have stopped playing, which is to say they are aimed at the decision you already made.

Why now: unsubscribing is trivial and permanent; ignoring is neither.

The pattern

Every setting above is a way of letting a calmer version of you make a decision on behalf of a less calm one. That is all these tools are, and it is why the right time to configure them is the boring afternoon when none of it feels necessary.
